Vtg 60s-70s COCA COLA MONSANTO Plastic 10oz COKE Bottle(s) 8-pack Paper Carrier. Today we are excited to offer for sale a set of late 1960s or early'70s Coca Cola 10oz plastic bottles! During a time when Coke in plastic bottles was a brand new thing, we bring you... Coke's Original Disposable Plastic Bottles! The first of their kind in fact (though surely not the last), complete with the original 8-bottle carrier, direct from the basement of the Coca Cola Bottling Company of New England on Davol Street in Fall River, Massachusetts. The Monsanto plant who made these innovative new bottles was also located in Massachusetts. The bottles have an intentional blue/green tint - presumably to make them look like their soda lime glass equivalents. Some of the bottles have the name "Monsanto" molded into the bottom (in tiny letters) along with a number (21 or 9). Other bottles are not marked at all but are otherwise identical. We got these from a long-retired employee of the plant directly, who supplied this information to us upon consignment. The consignor tells us that they were stored away for decades in the basement having never been used and that he was allowed to take them during a cleanup he was in charge of. The 7-3/4-tall bottles are in very good vintage condition, having never been used but having light scratches or scuff marks in the plastic from storage and some expected light dust.
Even the original carrier is in good shape, fully intact and with minor exterior wear to the cardboard from storage. Each bottle holds 10 fluid ounces -- compare that to today's 20-ounce bottles which are a full twice the volume! A good piece of Coke history, rarely found in its carrier, with great provenance! We will send you the carrier and set of bottles in the best condition at the time of the sale. Item(s) will be professionally packed to prevent damage in transit.
